Rep. Peter Hoekstra , R-Mich. tried to tie telecom immunity to a mental health parity bill. It was his latest move in "a string of Republican motions to recommit a measure to add the Senate version of electronic surveillance legislation." Consider his words:
“This bill is intended to ensure the mental health of Americans; yet, no American’s health can be fully secured if they are under attack by a terrorist or facing the potential threat of terrorist attack.”
Surely the mentally ill will sleep better at night knowing companies have immunity for spying on citizens. Those with paranoia will have the added assurance of knowing that someone is truly watching them. That Pete, he really cares...
